Society finch

The Society finch (also called the Bengalese finch) is one of the best finches for beginners and experienced breeders alike. They are domesticated birds and are not found naturally in the wild.

• Size: 4–4.5 inches (10–11 cm)
• Lifespan: 7–10 years, sometimes longer with excellent care
• Temperament: Very gentle, social, and peaceful
• Diet: High-quality finch seed mix, pellets, fresh greens, egg food during breeding, and cuttlebone or mineral supplements
• Housing: They do best in pairs or small groups in a spacious cage or aviary.

Breeding

They are among the easiest finches to breed:

• Usually lay 4–7 eggs.
• Incubation takes about 13–14 days.

• They are excellent foster parents and are often used to raise the chicks of more delicate finch species.
